The Richmond Borough in Bloom FLORAL ART COMPETITION 2019 is held in partnership with Achieving for Children.

Enter via your school or submit a personal entry. Please read the following information very carefully. A PDF copy of this information is available for DOWNLOAD HERE.

The entry chosen as best overall will be used to illustrate a special poster to publicise this year’s gardening and floral display competitions for residents and businesses. It will be displayed in libraries and elsewhere throughout the borough.

The paintings will be judged in 5 age categories, from under 5 years to 6th Form and there will be a winner and two runners-up in each age category. All these 15 top entries will go on exhibition at special events.

YOUR PAINTING COULD WIN:

  • A £50 GARDEN CENTRE VOUCHER FOR YOUR SCHOOL

  • A BUMPER PACK OF ART MATERIALS FOR YOURSELF

WHAT THE JUDGES ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Is the painting truly eye-catching and colourful, so as to draw viewers’ attention to our gardening competitions?
  • Does this painting show artistic talent which stands out within your age group?
  • Does it depict one or more flowers or shrubs seen outdoors during the summer months?
  • Does it reveal a keen observation of blooms?

THE AWARDS

In each age category there will be one winner and two runners up. The overall competition winner, chosen from the five age category winners, will also receive a unique commemorative trophy to treasure for a lifetime.

Each school whose pupil is a category winner will be awarded a special Richmond Borough in Bloom commemorative certificate to display and a £50 GARDEN CENTRE VOUCHER.

Award winners will be invited to a presentation ceremony and celebration tea party on Monday 20 May 2019.

THE CLOSING DATE FOR SCHOOL ENTRIES IS THURSDAY 4 APRIL 2019. For personal entries the closing date is Monday 15 April 2019.

HOW TO ENTER

Please read carefully these conditions of entry:

  1. You must be attending a school or pre-school within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
  2. Pictures may be in paint, crayon, ink or felt pen (but not computer generated) on a sheet no larger than A4 (297mm x 210mm) and must not be mounted.
  3. Only pictures in portrait shape will be accepted and the picture must not contain any words or figures.
  4. Award-winning entries will be retained by Richmond Borough in Bloom and may be put on display or reproduced. The organisers do not undertake to return any other entries.
  5. Entries submitted through your school must be received at the address below by the closing date of Thursday 4 April 2019 or if it is an individual entry must be received at the address below by Monday 15 April 2019.
  6. You must affix a label or write directly onto the back of the picture stating:
    a) Your full name (in capitals)
    b) The age (in years) you will be on Monday 15 April 2019
    c) The age category entered - A, B, C, D, or E
    d) The name of your school.

Entries without all these details may be disqualified.

To help us notify you of a winning award:

  • If you are a school sending in a batch of entries please enclose a note of a contact person’s name, phone and email address.
  • If you are an individual entrant, please enclose a note giving the name, phone and email address of your parent or guardian.

The entries will be judged in 5 age groups:

Category A: Under 5 years
Category B: 5 to 7 years
Category C: 8 to 11 years
Category D: 12 to 16 years
Category E: Sixth Form (any year)
