2018 PAINTING COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Thousands of entries were received by Richmond Borough in Bloom for this year’s floral art competition, sent in by 27 schools. We were looking for an eye-catching painting showing talent as well as good observation of summer in the garden to illustrate the poster to publicise the season’s gardening competitions open to residents, community groups and business throughout the borough.

The winner, chosen by a judging panel chaired by the Mayor, Cllr Lisa Blakemore, was an unusual but realistic painting of dandelions blowing in the wind, created by seven-year-old Nadia Boeva from Collis Primary School. It was the unanimous choice of the panel who also included Colin Squire of Squire’s Garden Centres, Lucy Kourpas of Achieving for Children, designer Susan Hare and Sheena Harold and Pat Schooling of Richmond Borough in Bloom.

The winning painting by Nadia Boeva, age 7, Collis School:

The entries were judged in four age groups, with a winner and two runners-up in each group, the overall winner being chosen from the top four. The poster will be seen in the borough libraries at the end of this month, together with gardening competition entry forms, following a presentation to award winners of commemorative prizes and a celebration tea with the Deputy Mayor at York House on April 24.
